The much awaited sequel to The Conjuring(2013), The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist came out last June. The movie has certainly caused much hype and excitement among it’s viewers especially the ones who have watched the former movies (The Conjuring and Annabelle) of the series. The film brings back Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators who assist a single mother whose daughter is possessed by a malicious spirit. The Warrens also face their own problems in the world of the paranormal.

As a whole I liked the movie, but as a horror film it didn’t live up to expectations. The first Conjuring was definitely better at giving me nightmares! After that movie I expected it’s sequel to chill me to the bones but it didn’t do that, sadly. But other than that, it was a great movie.

The movie is set a few decades back and the moviemakers have done an excellent job creating that atmosphere. Another great thing is the way the horror elements were presented. The demonic nun (of whom most of you must have seen pictures of even if you haven’t watched the movie yet) was done perfectly. It couldn’t have been portrayed better (that image is never leaving my mind!). Another thing I find really great is it music. The song ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’, a Christmas favourite (which was heard in the trailer) is featured a lot in the movie. If you are familiar with that song (and happen to like it a lot), then hearing it in a horror movie will definitely give you goosebumps! Like the first movie they abstained from using any bright colours which gave it a more foreboding feel.

The actors have done great work, especially Madison Wolfe who plays Janet. Her acting was just superb and the way she portrayed being possessed was really convincing.

I wanted the storyline to be a bit more interesting. But as it is based on a true occurrence, there is a limit to the amount of exaggeration. A bit more about the nun would have been nice (the nun isn’t part of what is believed to have actually happened). I felt that the first half of the movie was very detailed but then the second half seemed rushed and it ended abruptly. Apart from that it was a great movie.

I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone who doesn’t mind random visions of the demonic nun’s eyes in the dark! 😉

3 & 1/2 out of 5!
