    Direction: Jon M Chu

Production: Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Bobby Cohen.

Having loved the first part, I watched the movie with high expectations and I’m happy to say that it didn’t disappoint. Although like any movie it did have a few downsides to it, but overall I loved Now You See Me 2.

Those of you who have seen the first movie will know what the story is about. It is the story of 4 magicians brought together by an organization named The Eye to expose injustice and crimes being commited by powerful people, using their magic tricks.

Overall I loved the plot but sometimes it got too confusing or sometimes too predictable. With Henley gone the unnecessary need for a romantic element to be included in the movie made itself known when Jack Wilder and Lula May were paired up. In my opinion that wasnt really needed in the movie.

Coming to the characters we have Daniel Atlas, Jack Wilder, Merritt Mckinney, Dylan Rhodes, Thaddeus Bradley and Arthur Tressler all of whom we have seen in the previous movie. The actors have done a good job of portraying their characters well and they (the characters) are as good as they were in the first movie, even a bit better.

The new characters… Honestly I didn’t really like them. Lula May was added to fill the gap left by Henley but I felt that she just didn’t fit in with the other 3 as Henley did. Daniel Radcliffe’s character Walter was alright for me. You may think him to be a bit wierd and not so evil, because he’s almost soft spoken. But as the plot thickens you understand the extend of his evilness. Then we have Merritt’s twin brother, Chase. I really really didn’t like him and I felt that he was an unnecessary addition to the film.

Coming to the action filled scenes the one I loved the most was when they stole the chip. It was just thrilling to watch and I absolutely loved it. I also loved the part where Daniel Atlas appears to control the rain. It was so fascinating to watch.

Another positive for me is that we get to see a different side of Thaddeus Bradley in the movie. I loved that little plot twist.

Overall I loved the movie and I definitely want a third part to it. I would recommend it to each and very one of you. You should also totally watch the first part if you haven’t already!

    4 out of 5!

So that’s it. Thank you for reading! Untill next time.

Movie Review || The Conjuring 2

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist

    • Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren
    • Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren
    • Madison Wolfe as Janet Hodgson
    • Frances O’Conner as Peggy Hodgson
    • Bob Adrian as Bill Wilkins
    • Bonnie Aarons as Demon Nun

Running time: 2 hours 14 minutes

    Direction: James Wan

Production: Peter Safran, Rob Cowan, James Wan

The much awaited sequel to The Conjuring(2013), The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist came out last June. The movie has certainly caused much hype and excitement among it’s viewers especially the ones who have watched the former movies (The Conjuring and Annabelle) of the series. The film brings back Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators who assist a single mother whose daughter is possessed by a malicious spirit. The Warrens also face their own problems in the world of the paranormal.

As a whole I liked the movie, but as a horror film it didn’t live up to expectations. The first Conjuring was definitely better at giving me nightmares! After that movie I expected it’s sequel to chill me to the bones but it didn’t do that, sadly. But other than that, it was a great movie.

The movie is set a few decades back and the moviemakers have done an excellent job creating that atmosphere. Another great thing is the way the horror elements were presented. The demonic nun (of whom most of you must have seen pictures of even if you haven’t watched the movie yet) was done perfectly. It couldn’t have been portrayed better (that image is never leaving my mind!). Another thing I find really great is it music. The song ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’, a Christmas favourite (which was heard in the trailer) is featured a lot in the movie. If you are familiar with that song (and happen to like it a lot), then hearing it in a horror movie will definitely give you goosebumps! Like the first movie they abstained from using any bright colours which gave it a more foreboding feel.

The actors have done great work, especially Madison Wolfe who plays Janet. Her acting was just superb and the way she portrayed being possessed was really convincing.

I wanted the storyline to be a bit more interesting. But as it is based on a true occurrence, there is a limit to the amount of exaggeration. A bit more about the nun would have been nice (the nun isn’t part of what is believed to have actually happened). I felt that the first half of the movie was very detailed but then the second half seemed rushed and it ended abruptly. Apart from that it was a great movie.

I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone who doesn’t mind random visions of the demonic nun’s eyes in the dark! 😉

    3 & 1/2 out of 5!

      30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 25

Someone who fascinates you and why.

      Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin is someone who fascinates me a lot. I haven’t seen many films of his but the ones I have seen, I have absolutely loved. He is a superb actor but what makes him a fascinating person is how he can evoke so many emotions in the people who watch his films. And that too without a single word.

When I watched his films, I laughed at the jokes and the silly things he did, I was embarrassed for him when he embarrassed himself, I was angry at the people in the movie for treating him or anyone else in the movie in a bad way, I cried at some of the most touching parts. And I thought about what all of it meant at the end of the movie.

One person being able to evoke so many feelings in another human being without speaking, without being overly dramatic (like a lot of movies these days are) and without even knowing each other is truly a very very great capability (‘great capability’ is an understatement here). Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was truly a great soul who walked our earth.

      30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 24

Favorite movie and what it is about.

There are lots of movies that I absolutely love and it’s really hard picking a favorite. But I think I’m gonna go with Om Shanti Oshana. This is a malayalam (my mother tongue) movie starring Nivin Pauly and Nasriya Naseem. It’s a very beautiful love story and I love it a lot.

Om Shanti Oshana is a romantic comedy film which came out in 2014. It is the story of a young girl (Pooja), how she falls in love, gets turned down by the guy (Giri) when she asks him out but still goes on with her life never forgetting him or her love for him. In between we can find many funny situations Pooja is stuck in along with her friends and sometimes her cousin. We can basically find many situations an Indian teen girl had to go through in this movie. A doctor’s daughter she too becomes a doctor and coincidentally meets Giri again from the hospital (being an MBBS student). They become friends and from there Giri too falls in love with Pooja.

From the way I’ve described it, it seems like a really boring and sappy movie but its actually really good. I have no idea how to describe it any way else. It’s really funny, it’s story is very touching, they way the story is narrated by Pooja herself is a nice touch. The actors have executed their roles very well. The film also went on to receive 3 state film awards. Overall it’s a great film and definitely a must watch for all Indians.

Team Iron Man or Team Cap? (Part 2)

So I hope you’ve read my first article about Marvel‘s Captain America: Civil War (if not catch it here —> Part 1 ).

Now let’s get down to more important things like choosing which side you’re on! And here’s an in depth analysis of both teams!

      TEAM  TONY

Team Iron Man/Tony Stark is obviously lead by Tony and they are the ones who support the Superhero Registration Act. There are mainly 5 members on Tony’s side and they are:

      • James “Rhodey” Rhodes/War Machine:- There are no surprises there. Colonel Rhodes has been one of Tony’s oldest friends and he will of course stand by his buddy, with the fate of the free world at stake.
      • Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow:- This is a bit surprising considering her long history with Clint Barton (who happens to be on team cap) and her friendship with Steve Rogers. And we all know that she hasn’t exactly been the greatest fan of Tony Stark. Clearly something major enough has happened to change her mind.
      • Vision:- This is as expected because Vision considers himself as someone who wants only the best for humanity and will do whatever he can to keep them safe. So it’s not surprising that he sides with Tony and the government in order to keep the people safe.
      • T’Challa/Black Panther:- The chieftain of the fictional nation of Wakanda, Black Panther’s history with Tony’s family dates back to the days of Howard Stark. This will be his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
      • Peter Parker/Spiderman:- As the trailer shows, it seems that our friendly neighbourhood web slinger has decided to join Tony. As to how he gets there or why he’s there or if he’ll change his loyalty later on, we don’t have the answers yet. But right now he’s allied with Tony Stark.

      TEAM CAP

Lead by Steve Rogers, they stand against the government and the Superhero Registration Act and stand for freedom. There are mainly 6 members on Steve’s side and they are:

      • Clint Barton/Hawkeye:- His choice is quite intriguing considering his long time friendship with Natasha Romanoff (who sides with Tony). But even though he is one of the few who does not have any superpowers he is still a valuable member in Team Cap and a formidable opponent.
      • Sharon Carter/Agent 13:- She first appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Looks like Peggy Carter’s daughter has indeed decided to follow her mom and side with Steve Rogers.
      • Sam Wilson/Falcon:- He was trained in the military in aerial combat with a special wing pack and also has a robotic drone named Redwing to aid him. As the only member of the team who can fly, he is the one who can face the much more advanced Iron Man suits of Tony Stark.
      • Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier:- Steve’s childhood buddy and an enhanced brainwashed assassin, will be seen fighting alongside Cap, hopefully a tad less brainwashed now.
      • Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch:- Being loyal to Cap given her distrust of anything Stark Industries related is only logical here. Also her powers in magic can become a great advantage for Cap’s side.
      • Scott Lang/Ant Man:- As a petty criminal who went to prison as a social justice warrior, he is someone who will be ready to take on the government when called upon.

So now its your turn to pick sides. Will you choose to stand with Tony Stark? Will you support the government because you believe that what they are about to do is for the good of the people? Will you side with what’s law? Will you stand for the greater good? Will you stand for doing what is necessary for the safety of humanity?

Or will you choose to stand with Steve Rogers? Will you stand for freedom? Will you stand for what you believe in? Do you think too much control is bad? Will you support anonymity?

I personally choose Team Iron Man. But don’t let that affect you. Now it’s your turn to choose.

      Whose side are you on?

Team Iron Man or Team Cap? (Part 1)

The much awaited third and final film of Marvel‘s Captain America trilogy, Captain America: Civil War is all set to be released on May 6th and practically everyone’s pretty hyped up for it. So basically in this movie Iron Man/Tony Stark and Captain America/Steve Rogers face off against each other because of a *ehem* difference in opinion.

This is the thirteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It has an ensemble cast including: Chris Evans (Steve Rogers / Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark / Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Falcon), Don Cheadle (James “Rhodey” Rhodes / War Machine), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton / Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa / Black Panther), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang / Ant-Man / Giant-Man), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter / Agent 13), Tom Holland (Peter Parker / Spider-Man), Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow / Crossbones), William Hurt (Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross) and Daniel Brühl (Helmut Zemo). Additionally Gwyneth Paltrow reprises her role as Pepper Potts and Martin Freeman is introduced as Everett Ross, a member of the Joint Counter Terrorism Center, and a character associated with Black Panther in the comics.

And here is Marvel‘s official synopsis for Civil War:

“Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps — one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.”

So what basically happens is that the government wants to pass a Superhero Registration Act which requires all superheroes to register themselves with the government so that they get proper training and can be held accountable for their actions. Tony is all for registering everyone, he’s on the government’s side (now THAT is definitely a first) and he feels that its the only way to keep everyone safe. But Steve disagrees because he wants superheroes to be able to act freely without government intervention. He feels that such an Act takes away the freedom and free will of the superheroes. And so instead of resolving this through a conversation or meeting or something, they opt for a full fledged civil war which of course gives a chance for the real villains to wreck havoc. This war fractures the Avengers and they – along with other heroes – are forced to take sides (more on that in Part 2) with Iron Man or Captain America based on whether they are for or against the Act.

So have you decided yet on who you are supporting? No? Well I’m here to help you decide!

More on the teams and it’s members and also a comparison between the two coming up in Part 2!
